HMG Website Project FAQ's

We are excited to be working with you to design your new website! Now that your project is underway, here are some frequently asked questions that will help you understand what to expect from Hometown Marketing Group and what we expect from you as we move forward. 

How long does it take to design my website?
The length of time will really depend upon many factors:

a.    The scale and size of the website
b.    Availability and preparedness of the materials such as written content you are supplying to us.
c.    Amount of custom graphics design, programming and multi-media work involved (this varies
by project)

What is required from my company to build the website?
You would typically supply us with all of your written content and any necessary imagery electronically in a single document. We can arrange to have your content written for you at an additional cost.

Other less tangible aspects such as design or layout ideas are handled in the preliminary meetings and Creative Brief where you specify any preferred color schemes and sample web sites that appeal to you.

Once I submit a Creative Brief, when should I expect to hear back from HMG with design comps?
This process can take 5-10 business days depending on the size of the project.  During that time, if you have any additional input please feel free to contact us.

What is a design comp?
A “comp” is short for “composition” and is our short hand way of saying the design pieces that we put together for your review.  They are simple “inactive” images which we can work with to make any revisions before we move forward to the final build-out of the website.

What constitutes a revision?
These are things that you would like to see happen to our initial design comps, color changes, modifications to the layout of the site, font changes, etc…We suggest that you look over everything carefully (maybe even sleep on it) before getting back to us with changes.

Once I approve a design can I make changes?
Typically, no. We encourage you to be as thorough and meticulous as possible while you review our initial design comps.  Once you have approved the design we like to keep things moving forward for our benefit and yours.  

How long does it take for the final build-out of the site?
This can take 10-20 business days depending on the size of your website and readiness of the content that you will be providing us.

Can I make changes to my content after I send it to you.
Typically, no.  To avoid confusion and uneccesary work on our end, we will need your content to be ready to publish once received. 

How do I update my website?
There are many different methods which can be used to update websites. The method you choose and the functionality we build into your website design is solely up to you.  Of course, we will be glad to advise you on which method will suit your needs.

If you have a small website consisting of just a few pages and only wish to make changes very infrequently, then usually it is more cost effective simply to ask HMG to carry out these changes for you.

If you have chosen for us to create and install our custom content management, you will be able to make updates and edit the website yourself.

Am I tied into HMG for any site maintenance or updates I wish to do once my website is designed?
No, once your website is designed it belongs to you and you can commission anyone to update it for you - although of course we would like to think that you are happy with our services and will continue to use us for your website maintenance.

Will everyone see my web site the same?
Your website visitors will see some things differently depending on their browser, screen resolution setting and their individual computer settings and toolbars. We design sites with that in mind and preview them in several browser types and resolution settings before publishing. Obviously as technology alters then eventually all websites may need reevaluation.

Will my website be search engine friendly?
All our websites are created with search engines in mind and the website design is compliant with search engine guidelines. It is a good idea for your website to be re-evaluated over time as the search engines do alter their rules and algorithms and you will want to be certain that your website is kept up to date.
